Turns out that the person behind the Skwakbox who regularly complains and campaigns against the privatisation of the NHS is a CEO of a company which makes money selling services to the NHS.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -boss.html

Quote:
An anonymous, left wing blogger who started the fake news story that the Government was gagging the media over the Grenfell fire disaster is a corporate CEO who sells private services to the NHS, MailOnline can reveal.
Steven Walker, 52, who has attempted to keep his identity hidden, runs the influential website Skwawkbox, which published false allegations that the government was concealing details of the tragedy, that went viral.
Mr Walker reported that officials had placed a D-notice - an official request to editors not to publish sensitive information - on the real number of deaths in the blaze.
No government D-notice had been ordered. The story was picked up by two more news sites before going viral on social media
.

What a fucking hypocrite.

I wouldn't trust the mail to be telling the truth about that.

Mr Walker, a father of two, is the sales director and CEO of a company called Foojit, which provides mailing solutions to the NHS.

Foojit made money from the NHS by selling its mailing system to the Levenshulme Health Clinic in Manchester.

I was expecting something a little more damning, if I'm honest...

Well there both made for each other. After his antics over Grenfell he deserves all he gets.

IIRC, Swawkbox (not that difficult to spell, is it?) questioned whether there is/was a D-Notice in force over Grenfell rather than stating that there actually was.

Still, that would be trifling detail for the authors of the Zinowiev Letter and who, themselves, rarely shy away from a spot of speculation;

Still, lefties, eh?

Well, technically speaking, that's true.

Quote:
If it is true that the government has issued a D-notice — and every instinct is screaming that it is — then the government has placed a national security gag on mainstream news editors to prevent them from disclosing what’s already known about the number of lives lost at Grenfell Tower. This raises a huge question: WHY?.

But I'd suggest that the highlighted area of Skwawky's report comes rather too close to stating that there was to make much of a difference. The fake news spread quickly. I'd say it was, at least in spirit, as irresponsible as the Zinoviev letter. Skawkbox's blind determination to dish the Tories is laughable sometimes.

These blogs and their similarly hand-knitted siblings are pretty much alone on the media landscape in their determination to hold the tories to account.

I would rather we support and encourage them than actually praise the cornucopia of cunts for trying to bring them down.

Right as Bob Pitt puts it Skwawkbox is an embarrassment to the left

https://medium.com/@pitt_bob/skwawkbox- ... ed00a50898

Quote:
Faced with the collapse of its story, Skwawkbox was forced to back off and post a grudging retraction: “EDIT: the SKWAWKBOX is now satisfied that no D-notice was issued. No plain answer to this blog’s question of other restrictions on information about lives lost at Grenfell has yet been provided, but a ‘D-notice’ (or DSMA-notice as they are now termed) was not.”
Did Skwawkbox apologise for getting the story wrong and offer assurances that there would be no repetition of this stupid and provocative reporting? You must be joking. Instead, Skwawkbox’s proprietor was stung by the well-deserved criticism of his article into posting an indignant defence of his shoddy journalistic methods. In a quite astonishing display of chutzpah, he declared that he himself had been the victim of “fake news”!

I wouldn't want to encourage piss-poor irresponsible journalism from whichever quarter it emanated.
The danger with blogs like Skwawkbox is that they suffer a serious credibility problem, because credibility is earned only through serious, sincere, diligent journalism and responsible publishing, and Skwawkbox self-evidently cares not a jot for any of that.

I'd no more bother reading anything in, for example, The Canary, than I would anything in The Express.

I certainly don't disagree that there is a credibility deficit which is only made worse by inaccuracies and shooting from the hip.

It should not go unnoticed though that corrections are, by and large, published within hours both on social media as well as on the original platform. The same cannot be said for the Express or most of the established press. That, together with the many stories Skwawkbox has covered uncontentiously yet had been somehow "overlooked" by the tory press, should suggest that they do care about getting it right.

To side with the non-doms is to do their bidding.

Very true. Blogs live and die by readership, and that means partly credibility and partly giving readers what they want. Compare to the 'established' press (the clue' s in that word) which rely increasingly on their owners' deep pockets, their fading reputations and the desperation of broadcast journalists to fill space by 'reviewing the papers'.
